News: The Student Cell initiative is a project by the Kota Police in India to address stress and suicides among coaching students who prepare for competitive exams like JEE and NEET.

What are the key features of the initiative?
• It consists of a team of police personnel who interact with students, provide counselling, and detect signs of stress or depression.
• It has a dedicated helpline where students can call and report their problems or seek professional help.
• It conducts random checks in hostels, interacts with students, and reports to their parents if they spot any signs of pressure, stress, or depression.
• It aims to reach out to students and make them aware of the help available, as well as encourage them to have a plan B ready in case they do not achieve their desired goals.
• It was launched in response to a rising number of student suicides in Kota, which has witnessed 22 such cases so far in 2023.
