News: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday warned the state Assembly of environmental disasters, including floods, for his state and neighbouring Assam if India does not respond to China's building a mega dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo River in Tibet's Medog district.

About Siang River:
• The Tsangpo flows through Tibet before entering Arunachal Pradesh as the Siang. It becomes the Brahmaputra in Assam and the Jamuna in Bangladesh before it empties into the Bay of Bengal.

What is a barrage?
• A barrage is a dam or barrier built across a river or watercourse to control the flow of water. It typically consists of gates or sluices that can be opened or closed to manage the flow of water downstream.
• Barrages are primarily used for flow control and water diversion, while Dams are designed for water storage and regulation on a larger scale.
