Contribution of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel
Integration of Princely states
• One of Patel's most notable achievements was the integration of over 562 princely states into a united and independent India after partition in 1947. His diplomatic skills and persuasive abilities played an important role in convincing the princely states to join the Indian Union.
Bardoli Satyagraha
• Patel led the Bardoli Satyagraha in 1928, a non-violent revolt against British taxation policies in Bardoli, Gujarat. His leadership during this movement earned him the title 'Sardar' meaning leader.
Police operation in Hyderabad
• Patel organized a police operation in Hyderabad in 1948, which annexed the princely state of Hyderabad to India. This action prevented the state from becoming an independent entity or merging with Pakistan, ensuring its integration into the Indian Union.
Refugee Resettlement
• He played a key role in resettlement, rehabilitation and addressing concerns pertaining to housing, employment and basic needs of refugees who migrated to India.
Promotion of co-operative societies
