News: External Affairs recently visited Indian Coast Guard ship Samudra Paheredar, which is in Manila Bay in the Philippines, as part of an overseas deployment to ASEAN countries.

About:
 ICGS Samudra Paheredar is an Indian Pollution Control Vessel (PCV) commissioned in July 2012 in Gujarat by then Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Nirmal Verma. This 
specialized vessel takes care of the east coast of India and can reach speeds of up to 21 knots. 
 It is the second pollution control vessel in India, the first being ICGS Samudra Prahari. Constructed by ABG Ship Yard Pvt. Ltd., the ship plays a crucial role in safeguarding the marine environment and responding to pollution incidents. 
 In 2020, ICGS Samudra Paheredar visited Muscat, Doha, Riyadh, and Dubai, where it underwent joint training with the UAE navy.

Key Features
 The ship measures 94.10 meters in length. It has a maximum displacement of 4,300 tons.
 ICGS Samudra Paheredar is propelled by twin diesel engines. These engines produce power, which is further enhanced by twin shaft generators.
 As a pollution control vessel, it plays a crucial role in safeguarding the marine environment.
