News: Recently, the animal exchange program between Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary in Tripura and North Bengal Zoo is a positive initiative which will contribute to biodiversity enrichment.

About:
• The Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Bishalgarh, Tripura, India. It is about 25 kilometers away from Agartala, the capital of Tripura.
• Flora and Fauna: Among the standout species is the ‘Agar,’ a tree highly valued for its aromatic resin. The sanctuary is home to a variety of animals, including elephants, deer, bison, and primates. It is famous for its “Clouded Leopard enclosure”. The avian population is equally captivating, with over 150 species of birds.
• Forest Type: The sanctuary is a woodland and the vegetation is primarily moist deciduous forest. There are trees of Sal, Chamal, Garjan, and Bamboo.
• The Sanctuary is home to several indigenous tribal communities, including the Reang, Tripura, and Jamatia tribes. These communities have lived in the sanctuary for generations, and they have a deep connection to the forest. The tribal communities play an important role in the conservation of the sanctuary
