News: The situation in Niger “remains fluid” a day after mutinous soldiers detained toppled President Mohamed Bazoum and announced they had seized power in a coup because of the West African country’s deteriorating security situation.

About Niger:
• Niger is the largest country in West Africa. It was colonized by France in 1890, and became independent in 1960.
• Niger is partly covered by the Sahara desert and is named after the Niger River, which flows through the country.
• Niger borders seven countries - Algeria, Libya, Chad, Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, and Mali.
