About EACOP:
• The East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project is a proposed pipeline that will transport crude oil from Uganda’s oil fields to the Port of Tanga, Tanzania on the Indian Ocean. It connects Kilenga and Kingfisher oilfields (Uganda) with port of Tanga.
•  The pipeline will be 1,443 km long and will be heated to a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius to transport the waxy crude oil. It will be the longest heated pipeline in the world.
• The pipeline will cross sensitive areas such as wetlands, forests, wildlife reserves, and Lake Victoria basin, which are home to endangered species and provide livelihoods for millions of people.
• The pipeline’s construction will disrupt sensitive ecosystems, including Uganda’s Murchison Falls National Park and the Murchison Falls-Albert Delta Ramsar site.
