News: Indian-born author Nandini Das has been named the winner of the 2023 British Academy Book Prize for Global Cultural Understanding.

What is British Academy Book Prize?
• The British Academy Book Prize is an annual award given for a non-fiction book that promotes global cultural understanding. The prize, which is worth £25,000, is awarded to a book that has made an outstanding contribution to global cultural understanding for a wider public audience.
• The aim of the prize is to celebrate well-researched books that improve global cultural understanding. The prize was formerly known as the Nayef Al-Rodhan Prize.

About Nandini Das:
• Born in India, Nandini Das has been named the winner of the 2023 British Academy Book Prize for her book
‘Courting India: England, Mughal India and the Origins of Empire'.
• As a Professor in the English faculty at the University of Oxford, the 49-year-old author has tried her best to present a new perspective on the origins of empire through the story of the arrival of the first English ambassador in India, Sir Thomas Roe, in the early 17th century.
