State Education Achievement Survey 2023
News: Recently, PARAKH has conducted the State Educational Achievement Survey 2023.
About:
• The State Education Achievement Survey (SEAS) 2023 is a national assessment. It is conducted by the Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development (PARAKH), an organization under the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT)
• The survey targets school students in grades 3, 6, and 9 in all types of management schools, including private management schools.
• The survey will offer a comprehensive evaluation of student learning at the block level.
• SEAS 2023 will adopt a paper-based mode utilizing Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) technology.
• Assessment for all grades will be competency-based and aligned with Learning Outcomes (LOs) of NAS.
• The survey aims to identify areas that require improvement.
• The outcomes of the Educational Achievement Survey are used at the national level for various education and SDG related achievements and ranking of states in different indicators
What are the functions of PARAKH?
• PARAKH is India’s First National Assessment Centre.
• It set norms, standards and guidelines for student assessment and evaluation for all recognized school boards of India.
• It guides the State Achievement Survey (SAS)
• To undertake the National Achievement Survey (NAS)
• To monitor achievement of learning outcomes and to encourage and help the school boards to shift their assessment patterns towards meeting the skill requirements of the 21st century.
• PARAKH is a progressive shift towards a more scientific approach to education.
• The prescribed structure will help to cater to the ability of the child – stages of cognitive development as well as social and physical awareness.
• It helps bring uniformity in assessments across states and UTs and it will put an end to the emphasis on rote learning.
