News: The Great Indian Bustard has not been spotted lately here indicating that it may have gone extinct from the sanctuary.

About:
• Rollapadu Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Nandyal district of Andhra Pradesh, India. It was established in 1988 to protect the Great Indian Bustard and the Lesser Florican, and it remains the only habitat in Andhra Pradesh for the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard. The sanctuary spans an area of 6.14 km².
• Flora: Rollapadu is primarily a grassland ecosystem with mixed forests and thorny bushes. The agricultural lands that border the sanctuary cultivate cotton, tobacco, and sunflower. Plant communities like Ziziphus mauritiana, Cassia fistula, Acacia, Butea monosperma, etc., are very useful for bird nesting at Rollapadu.
• Fauna: The sanctuary is home to a varied set of faunal and avifaunal species. Mammals such as foxes, jackals, bonnet macaques, jungle cats, sloth bears, and blackbucks have been reported at the sanctuary. It also houses reptiles like the Russells viper and Indian cobra. The sanctuary is home to 132 bird species. Some of the bird species spotted at Rollapadu include Indian rollers, several myna species, short-toed snake eagles, and winter migrant waterfowl such as bar-headed geese, demoiselle cranes, and greater flamingos.
