News: In a significant move towards enhancing its air defence capabilities, India is embarking on an ambitious project called 'Project Kusha.'

About:
• Project Kusha is an ambitious defense initiative by India aimed at developing its own long-range air defense system. The project was greenlit by the Cabinet Committee on Security in May 2022. The Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is developing the project with an estimated budget of Rs 21,700 crore.
• The project includes the development of three long-range Interceptor missiles, each serving as a critical component of India’s air defense system.
• Another key aspect of Project Kusha is the development of long-range surveillance and fire control radars. These radars will have the capability to scan airspace up to 500-600km deep into enemy territory, offering crucial strategic advantages.
• The project is set to provide the Indian Air Force (IAF) with a long-range air defense system, with deployment targeted for 2028-29.
