Nandankanan Zoological Park
News: The Central Zoo Authority (CZA) has approved the transfer of a cheetah, African lion, and Chimpanzee from Dubai Safari Park to Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) in Odisha. The NZP, in exchange, will provide various animals including Hippopotamus, blackbuck, hog deer, gaur, red junglefowl, and gharial.
About:
• Nandankanan Zoological Park is a wildlife conservation center located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. The park spans over 437 hectares and houses more than 1600 animals of 166 species. It was established in 1960 and opened to the public in 1979.
• The park is home to endangered animals like gharials, tigers, lions, and bears, which are kept in natural habitats. It also offers various facilities like a ropeway, boating, battery-operated vehicles, and a white tiger safari with a special vehicle.
• Nandankanan Zoological Park became the first zoo in India to join the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) in 2009. The park also includes a botanical garden and part of it has been declared a sanctuary
