News: The interim budget proposes to increase the number of beneficiaries under the Lakhpati Didi scheme to three crores from earlier 2 crore target.

What is the Lakhpati didi scheme?
• Launched in December 2023, the scheme aims to financially empower women in rural areas and promote their entrepreneurial spirit.
• Target beneficiaries: Women members of existing or newly formed SHGs in rural areas. Participants in the Scheme must be active members of self-help groups.
• Financial assistance: Interest-free loan of Rs. 5 lakh per SHG for initiating or expanding incomegenerating activities.
• Benefits: Alongside financial aid, the Lakhpati Didi scheme offers various benefits such as comprehensive training opportunities for women, enhancing their skills and empowering them economically. Women are connected with Self-Help Groups (SHGs), enabling them to receive training in areas such as making LED bulbs, plumbing, repairing drones, fostering financial independence.
