Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas

News: On the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched several key initiatives for the welfare of the tribal community.

What is the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas?
• Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, also known as Tribal Pride Day, is celebrated on November 15th every year.
• The day is significant as it marks the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, a revered tribal leader and freedom fighter. Born in 1875, Birsa Munda led a rebellious movement against British colonial rule and conversion activities in the areas of the Bengal Presidency, which today are part of Jharkhand.
• The Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas is celebrated to recognize the efforts of the tribals in the preservation of cultural heritage and promotion of Indian values of national pride, valour, and hospitality.

Key Initiatives launched:
• Pradhan Mantri Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups Development Mission (PM-PVTG): This is a comprehensive development program for ‘particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTG)’, with a funding of Rs 24,000 crore.
• PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN): It aims to protect and nurture tribal groups, especially those on the verge of extinction, by providing them with necessary support, development, and connectivity to mainstream services and opportunities. The initiative covers 75 PVTGs residing in 18 states and union territories.
