News: The National Council for Educational and Research Training (NCERT) is introducing a new ‘holistic progress
card’ (HPC) to replace traditional report cards.

About:
• The Holistic Progress Card (HPC) is a comprehensive, multidimensional report that provides a 360-degree view of a learner’s progress. It goes beyond traditional assessments that primarily test rote memorization skills.

Purpose and objective
• The primary objective of the HPC is to map the learning status of each child, specifically focusing on foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
• It is designed for the foundational stage (Classes 1-2), preparatory stage (Classes 3-5), and middle stage (Classes 6-8).
• It emphasizes the uniqueness of every learner, capturing their individual growth and progress over time.

Domains covered
• The HPC reflects progress in the following domains:
o Cognitive: Assessing intellectual abilities and knowledge.
o Affective: Evaluating emotional and social development.
o Socio-emotional: Focusing on interpersonal skills and well-being.
o Psychomotor: Measuring physical and motor skills.

Features
• Participatory, Inclusive, and Learner-Centric: Involves self-assessment, peer assessment, and parent feedback.
• Competency-Based Assessment: Shifts from summative assessments to regular formative assessments.
• Explicit Learning Outcomes: Defines pathways for competency acquisition.
• Progressive Approach: Allows children to learn at their own pace.
• Parent Involvement: Bridges the gap between home and school, making parents integral to the child’s
learning process.

• The HPC aligns with three developmental goals i) Health and Wellbeing, ii) Effective Communicators and iii) Involved Learners.
