News: Recently, an annual event offering Pongala at Attukal was witnessed in Kerala.
About:
• Attukal Pongala is a ten-day Malayalam festival celebrated by Malayali women at the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The festival is known as the Sabarimala of women and holds the Guinness World Record for the largest congregation of women.
• During the festival, women prepare Pongala or Payasam, a sweet dish made of rice, jaggery, coconut, plantain etc in an earthen pot, as an offering to Goddess Bhagavathy, also known as Attukalamma.
• The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor, and it is believed to bring happiness and prosperity to the family. The main significance of the festival is the victory of good over evil. The ceremony concludes in the evening with an aerial showering of flowers, and sprinkling of holy waters, by the temple priests, to honor the most benevolent goddess, Sri Bhadrakali.
