Arash-Dorra Gas Field
News: Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have rejected Iran’s claims to a disputed gas field located in the offshore area known as Arash in Iran and Dorra in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
About:
• The Arash-Dorra gas field is an offshore natural gas field located in the neutral zone between Kuwait, Iran and Saudi Arabia. It was discovered in 1967 and began production in 2013.
• It has an estimated recoverable reserve of about 220 billion cubic metres of natural gas and some condensates.
What is the dispute for?
• Kuwait and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement in March 2023 to jointly develop the field, but Iran objected to the deal and claimed its sovereign rights over part of the field.
• The three countries have not reached a resolution on the demarcation of their maritime borders or the sharing of the natural gas wealth in the area.
