News: The traditional Assamese Gamosa, a rectangular piece of cloth, has witnessed a surge in demand leading up to the celebration of Bohag Bihu.

About Bihu:
• Bihu Festivals: Bihu, the essence of Assam, is celebrated across the state with great zeal and enthusiasm. There are three main Bihu festivals:
o Bohag Bihu: Celebrated in the month of Bohag (Baisakh, mid-April), also known as 
Rongali Bihu. It signifies the Assamese New Year and the onset of spring, marked by 
merriment and festivities.
o Magh Bihu: Celebrated in the month of Magh (mid-January), also known as Bhogali Bihu. It is primarily a festival of food, marking the end of the harvesting season. The eve of Magh Bihu is known as Uruka.
o Kati Bihu: Celebrated in the month of Kati (Kartik, mid-October), also known as Kongali Bihu. Unlike the other Bihus, it is a more solemn festival, with festivities centered around lighting an earthen lamp near the Tulsi plant, known as Tulsi Bheti.
• Significance: Each Bihu festival corresponds to a specific phase in the farming calendar. Bohag Bihu heralds the New Year and seeding time, Kati Bihu marks the completion of sowing and transplanting of paddies, while Magh Bihu signals the end of the harvesting period.
