What is Semicon India?
• Semicon India is a program and a conference initiated by the Indian government to promote the development of semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem in India. The program aims to attract investments, create jobs, and boost innovation in the electronics sector.
• The program has an outlay of INR 760 billion for a period of six years from 2021-22 to 2026-27.
• The program offers incentives such as capital expenditure subsidy, interest subvention, production linked incentive, and tax benefits to eligible companies.
• It also includes scheme for setting up of Semiconductor Fabs and Display Fabs in India (fiscal support to eligible applicants for setting up of Semiconductor Fabs); Scheme for setting up of Compound Semiconductors / Silicon Photonics etc. Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme.

What are other initiatives taken?
• India Semiconductor Mission
• International Collaborations via agreements with the USA, Taiwan, Japan for cooperation on semiconductor development, manufacturing, and research.
• Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL) Modernization
• Micron technology, prominent US-memory chip manufacturer agreed to build state of the art semiconductor assembly and test facility in Gujarat.
