News: India recently test-fired its surface to surface short range ballistic missile (SRBM) ‘Pralay’ off the Odisha coast.

About Pralay Missile:
• It is Short range S2S ballistic missile which is capable of striking enemy targets within a 350-500km Distance. It has payload capacity of 500-1000kg.
• It has been developed for deployment along the LOC and the LAC.
• The Pralay missile features a jet vane system for thrust vector control, suggesting that the missile can perform evasive maneuvers in the terminal phase of flight.
• The missile navigates to its target using inertial guidance. It can be controlled throughout its flight.
• The combination of high speed, quasi-ballistic trajectory, and terminal maneuvering make the missile near impossible to intercept.
• The missile is compared to Russia’s Iskander-M.

Also to know:
• The missile would be first inducted into the Indian Air Force. It’s likely that the Indian Army will also acquire the missile.
