News: Recent reports in Azerbaijani media claim that the first consignment of India’s Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher System (MBRLS) has been delivered to Armenia via Iran.

Background:
• Armenia is at constant war with Azerbaijan over several issues. Nagorno-Karabakh region is the central zone where war takes place and is in news since many years.

About Armenia:
• Armenia is a landlocked country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia, with a high mountainous plateau cut by fast-flowing rivers.
• Armenia shares its land borders with four countries - Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Iran. It also borders the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which is an exclave of Azerbaijan.
• Capital – Yerevan on the banks of Hrazdan River.

What is the Nagorno Karabakh region?
• Nagorno-Karabakh, a region that is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, but is claimed and governed by ethnic Armenians. Nagorno-Karabakh has a population of about 150,000 people and covers an area of about 4,400 square kilometers.
• The region has a history of ethnic and religious tensions, as Armenia is predominantly Christian and Azerbaijan is predominantly Muslim.
• Besides Nagorno-Karabakh, there are also other disputed territories along the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, such as Nakhchivan, Zangezur, and Kalbajar. (Remember the names)
