News: The Ministry of Heavy Industries is set to unveil the Electric Mobility Promotion Initiative 2024 (EMPI 2024), aimed at propelling the widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) across the nation. This scheme is devised to expedite the transition towards sustainable transportation and reduce reliance on traditional fossil fuel-powered vehicles.

• The Electric Vehicle Eligibility: This Program encompasses various categories including electric two-wheelers (e-2W), three-wheelers (e-3W) including registered e-rickshaws & e-carts, and L5 electric three-wheelers.
• Scheme Applicability: The program primarily targets e2W and e-3Ws registered for commercial purposes.
• L5 Electric Three-Wheeler:
• Overview: Category L5 refers to a three-wheeled motor vehicle with a maximum speed exceeding 25 kmph or motor power exceeding 0.25 kW, if fitted with an electric motor, intended for carrying persons or goods.
• Types: This segment is further classified into two subcategories: L5N for Goods carrier and L5M for Passenger vehicle.
• Eligibility: Privately or corporate-owned registered e-2W vehicles are also eligible under the scheme, in addition to commercial use.
• Scheme Mandate: The scheme stipulates that only vehicles equipped with advanced batteries will qualify for incentives, aimed at promoting high-quality and efficient electric vehicles.
• Subsidy Offered: Electric Two-wheelers: Rs 5,000 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) subsidy with a maximum limit of Rs 10,000 per vehicle.
• Rickshaws and Carts: Rs 5,000 per kWh subsidy with a limit of Rs 25,000 per vehicle.
• L5 Electric Three-wheelers: A per-kWh subsidy of Rs 5,000, capped at Rs 50,000 per vehicle.
