News: Recently, the Marapi volcano in West Sumatra, Indonesia, erupted, ejecting ash up to 3,000 meters (9,840 feet) into the air and causing casualties.
About:
• Mount Marapi, also known as Gunung Marapi, is a complex volcano located in West Sumatra, Indonesia1. It is the most active volcano in Sumatra. Its name means “Mountain of Fire” in Indonesian.
• Several cities and towns are situated around the mountain, including Bukittinggi, Padang Panjang, and Batusangkar.
• Despite being one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, Mount Merapi is a famous tourist destination. Other volcanoes like Mount Semeru and Mount Bromo, also is a popular adventure destination in Indonesia.
