India’s first Nano-DAP Plant

India’s first Nano-DAP Plant

News: Recently, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation inaugurated India’s 1st IFFCO’s Nano DAP (Liquid) plant in Kalol (Gandhinagar), Gujarat.

What are Nano DAP and Nano Urea?
• Nano DAP and Nano Urea are nanotechnology-based fertilizers developed to provide essential nutrients to plants in a more efficient and environmentally friendly manner.

About Nano DAP:
• Nano DAP (Di-ammonium Phosphate) is a product of the Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO). It provides nitrogen and phosphorus to plants, which are essential for their growth. The nanoparticles in Nano DAP have a desirable particle size (<100 nm), more surface area, and more particles per DAP prill, making it bioavailable to plants..
• Application of Nano DAP liquid as seed or root treatment followed by one to two foliar sprays at critical growth stages can result in 50-75% reduction of conventional DAP application to crops.

About Nano Urea:
• Nano Urea, also developed by IFFCO, provides nitrogen to plants. It has a desirable particle size of about 20-50 nm and more surface area (10,000 times over 1 mm urea prill) and number of particles (55,000 nitrogen particles over 1 mm urea prill), making it bioavailable to plants.
• It helps minimize the environmental footprint by reducing the loss of nutrients from agriculture fields in the form of leaching and gaseous emissions which used to cause environmental pollution and climate change.

Benefits of Nano DAP and Nano Urea:
• Efficiency: The nanoparticles in Nano DAP and Nano Urea have a desirable particle size and more surface area, making them bioavailable to plants. This means that plants can absorb these nutrients more efficiently, leading to better growth and higher yields.
• Reduction in Usage: Application of Nano DAP liquid as seed or root treatment followed by one to two foliar sprays at critical growth stages can result in 50-75% reduction of conventional DAP application to crops. Similarly, Nano Urea can significantly reduce the amount of urea needed for crop growth.
• Environmental Impact: These nano fertilizers help minimize the environmental footprint by reducing the loss of nutrients from agriculture fields in the form of leaching and gaseous emissions which used to cause environmental pollution and climate change.
• Cost-Effective: Because less fertilizer is needed, farmers can potentially save money on fertilizer costs.
• Sustainable Agriculture: Both these fertilizers are part of a new wave of smart agriculture that aims to increase crop yields while reducing the environmental impact of traditional farming practices.

About IIFCO:
• Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited, also known as IFFCO (founded in 1967; HQ: New Delhi), is a multi-state cooperative society. IFFCO is wholly owned by Cooperative Societies of India. The society is engaged in the business of manufacturing and marketing of fertilizers.
