UPSC-CSE: HOW TO PREPARE FOR IT?

The above mentioned question arises in almost 90% of aspirants in the starting phase of their preparation. Being at a position where you want to prepare for UPSC-CSE (IAS/IPS Exam) but don’t know form where to start with is quiet normal. So first of all you need to build up the following things before starting preparation.

1. Patience: First of all, forget about everything like syllabus, paper pattern, results, success ratio, resources, test series, etc. The very first thing that you need to find within yourself is PATIENCE. You just need to believe in yourself and keep patience as a weapon with you every time. Don’t think excessively about question paper and results. However hard you try to write your answer, the result will not be in your hand. Why to waste your valuable time in thinking about the problem that you can’t solve. The only thing over which you have control is HARD WORK. So do believe in “HARD WORK PAYS OFF”

“Karm Karo Aur Fal Ki Chinta Mat Karo – GEETA”

2. Self Motivation: UPSC-CSE (IAS/IPS Exam) is very dynamic in nature. One cannot expect perfectly what questions can be asked and what will be one’s result. It may be possible that it takes two to three or even six attempts to crack this exam. Remember that this is a competition and not an ordinary exam. Only those who deserve to become a civil servant will pass. You may get demotivated if you can’t pass it in your first attempt. Don’t go anywhere to get yourself motivated. You’ll have to find motivation in yourself only. There might be small upsets like you are reading a topic or say a chapter and can’t remember it, or big upsets like you might get failed only by three to five marks in your interview. Every time you feel disappointed, think about the reason why you have started preparing for it. Find a reason to push yourself up daily within you only.

3. Positive Attitude: From the very first day from when you are going to begin your journey for preparation for UPSC-CSE, you would listen people saying about this exam that “UPSC-CSE is Asia’s toughest exam”, “Only those who starts preparation from his/her schooling can crack this exam” , “You should be lucky enough to pass this exam” , “You’ll have to study for 12-14 hours a day to crack this exam” , “Coaching is must to pass in this exam” etc…

So at first, don’t listen to anybody but yourself. If you REALLY want to become a CIVIL SERVANT, you will anyhow find your way from any difficulties. The only thing you should build is a POSITIVE ATTITUDE. Not only at the starting phase but these myths will follow you until you crack the whole exam. If you want to be a successful aspirant, you will have to be surrounded by positive vibes only.

There are other things too that you should keep in your mind i.e. perseverance, broad thinking, holistic approach, time management, faith in the resources, more and more practice, etc…
