In the Interview, this quality is always assessed to check general awareness of the candidates. We are here to help you with this. The Mock Interview Programme of Best coaching for UPSC Interview in Ahmedabad DICS in partnership with Eden IAS will help you to enrich your Current Affairs from Personality Test’s Perspective. You will also be provided with a handout of Important Current Affairs for UPSC – CSE Interview. You can understand the importance of current affairs in UPSC-CSE Interview by following questions.

What to read and what not to read?

You must have gone through various newspapers, magazines, materials, notes, etc. while preparing for Prelims and Mains. For Interview also, these sources would suffice. Along with these sources, one should also watch Rajya Sabha TV (now Sansad TV) discussions to get a clear thought on a particular issue.

One thing you must keep in your mind that the nature of the questions being asked in the interview from the current affairs would be little bit different from that of Prelims and Mains. Here you will be asked to give your personal opinion on a particular issue that is currently being seen in news. The purpose of asking you such question is not to check your knowledge on that particular issue but to check your awareness and to assess your thought process. Your answer will give idea about some of your qualities like, honesty of purpose, integrity, balanced approach, morality, ethical point of view, emotional intelligence, etc.

The mock interview panel of DICS in partnership with Eden IAS will guide you in this.

What should be your approach towards current affairs?

You should at least read current affairs of last six months and if possible, of last one year. This would give you a clear idea about the chronology of the events of National and International Importance.

How to answer the questions of Current Affairs?

Simply, do not get nervous upon these questions. First of all, you need to think that whether you have sufficient content and arguments for that question or not. If not, you can simply say that “Sorry sir, I am not aware about this issue.” Or you can say “I am not recollecting the facts about the issue right now.”

If you are confident that you have sufficient arguments about that issue, you can give your answer with proper justification. You are required to balance your answer in some of the controversial issues like latest farm laws, Citizenship Amendment Act, Issues with economy, etc. Excessive criticism would leave a negative impression about you.

Finally, Do not forget to read newspaper on the day of your interview as questions can be asked from that.
