Art Of Note Making For UPSC-CSE Preparation

The art of note making gives you chance to be a designer of your UPSC-CSE preparation. We recommend you to make your notes on your own in loose sheets form. In order to revise syllabus faster and thoroughly, your notes should be in a form that it can be modified easily. Even if you make notes similar to UPSC-CSE AIR 1, you’ll find something that can’t be grasped by you in a way that he/she has written that content.

So now we classify note making into three categories which are as follows:

1. For Prelims: First of all, segregate different subjects with topics and try to make separate notes for subjects/topics. Since you have practiced at least ten thousand MCQs, you are now able to find what is necessary for prelims and which topic or portion of particular topic you can skip. You are to make notes of that content only which you find relevant with UPSC-CSE. Remember you are the sole designer of your notes so keep space for different kinds of attributes which you can easily memories visually like mind maps, charts, figures, reference images, graphs, geographical maps, etc. Let’s take some examples for note making.

Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) in news:

  1. Points relevant from prelims point of view are
  • Quasi-judicial institution specializes in dealing with appeals under the Direct Taxes Acts.
  • Section 5A of the Income Tax Act, 1922.
  • The orders passed by the ITAT are final; an appeal lies to the High Court only if a substantial question of law arises for determination.
  • It functions under Department of Legal Affairs in the Ministry of Law and Justice.

Global Multidimensional Poverty Index 2018

  1. Points relevant from prelims point of view are
  • Global MPI 2018 Report prepared by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative.
  • Definition of MPI poor: The report measures multidimensional poverty index, which it says can be broken down to show “who is poor” and “how they are poor”. This factor in two measures, poverty rate as a percentage of the population, and intensity as the average share of deprivations that poor people experience. The product of these two is MPI. If someone is deprived in a third or more of 10 weighted indicators, the global index identifies them as “MPI poor”.
  • The four poorest states —Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh
  • Jharkhand had the greatest improvement

Shardapeeth corridor was recently seen in news

  1. Points relevant from prelims point of view are
  • The ShardaPeeth corridor, when opened, will be the second religious tract after Kartarpur corridor in Pakistan-controlled territory that will connect the two neighbouring nations.
  • The temple has been completely deserted since Partition in 1947
  • The temple is also one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas, or a “Grand Shakti Peethas”.
  • Abode of Hindu Goddess Saraswati
  • Resemblance with the Martand temple (another religious site in Anantnag) in architecture, design and construction style.
  • Find when was it built and by whom it was built
  • You’ll try to find its location

Now that you are clear about what is important from prelims point of view, add only those points which have relevance with UPSC-CSE prelims. We recommend you following sources to be followed to make your content rich.

  • NCERTs
  • Reference books
  • Newspapers (THE HINDU/India Express should be given first preference)
  • Magazines (Yojana, Kurukshetra, Frontline, Down to Earth, Science reporter, Geography and you, etc.)
