About:
• The Pakke Paga Hornbill Festival is a state festival of Arunachal Pradesh, India, celebrated every year in support of wildlife and nature conservation, with a particular focus on the preservation of hornbills. The festival takes place over three days.
• The festival was established in 2015 with the primary objective of recognizing the Nyishi tribe’s role in hornbill conservation within the Pakke Tiger Reserve.
• The Nyishi tribe, Arunachal Pradesh’s largest tribal group, has evolved from hunters of hornbills to passionate advocates for their preservation.
• The theme for the 2024 festival was “Domutoh Domutoh, Paga hum Domutoh”, which translates to “Let Our Hornbills Remain” in Nyishi.
