News: The state cabinet of Odisha has approved the recommendation to include the Kui language in the eighth schedule of the Constitution of India.

About Kui Language:
• Kui language is a South-Eastern Dravidian language spoken by the Kandhas, an indigenous people of Odisha, India. It is written in the Odia script and has about 941,000 speakers as of 2011.
• It is closely related to the Gondi and Kuvi languages and is one of the official languages of the Kandhamal district of Odisha.
• The inclusion of the Kui language in the 8th schedule will help in the preservation, promotion and propagation of this language and associated culture.
• It is also one of the languages included in the UNESCO World Atlas of Languages, a project that aims to document and promote linguistic diversity around the world.
