What is the CISF?
• The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is a federal police organization in India under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It was established in 1969 to provide integrated security cover to certain sensitive public sector undertakings.
• The force has since grown into a premier multiskilled organization with a present strength of 1,73,355 personnel.
• Headquarters – New Delhi, India
• Composition - The CISF is headed by an Indian Police Service officer with the rank of Director-General, assisted by an IPS officer in the rank of Addl. DirectorGeneral.
• The force is divided into Nine Sectors (Airport, North, North-East, East, West, South, Training, South-East, Central) and also has a Fire Service Wing

Role:
• Security of Industrial Establishments: The primary role of CISF is to provide comprehensive security to designated industrial establishments and strategic installations across India. They are responsible for preventing unauthorized access, theft, sabotage, and acts of terrorism.
• Protection of Strategic Institutions: CISF provides security to strategic establishments, including the Department of Space, the Department of Atomic Energy, airports, seaports, power plants, and important government buildings. It also protects iconic heritage monuments and the Delhi Metro.
• Prevention of Smuggling at Airports: CISF personnel are engaged in preventing smuggling at airports.
• Prevention of Trafficking: They play a role in preventing trafficking.
