Saksham App

News: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched the Saksham app to facilitate voter registration and electoral services for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). This mobile application aims to make voting more accessible and inclusive by providing customized services for PwDs, promoting their active participation in democracy.

About Election commission of India:
• Established on January 25, 1950, as a constitutional body responsible for conducting free and fair elections nationwide.
• Comprises a Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners to oversee electoral processes.
• Conducts elections for various bodies including Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, State Legislative Assemblies, and offices of the President and Vice President.
• Responsible for preparing electoral rolls, implementing the code of conduct, and monitoring election expenses to uphold transparency and integrity.
• Introduced the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) system in 1999, modernizing the voting process.
• Launched the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program to educate and encourage voter participation.
• Ensures equitable opportunities for all political parties and candidates, maintaining a fair electoral environment.

Key Features of the App:

New Voter Registration	PwDs can register as new voters by providing essential details such as name, address, mobile number, State, District, and Assembly Constituency.
Existing Voter Services	Registered voters can request electoral services by providing their EPIC (Electoral Photo Identity Card) number from their voter ID card.
Home Visit by Booth-Level Officer	After submitting registration or service requests, a booth-level officer will visit the PwD at their home to complete necessary formalities.
Accessibility Features	The app offers voice assistance, text-to-speech functionality, large fonts, and high-contrast colors for enhanced usability by visually and hearing impaired users.
Polling Station Information	Users can access details about their polling station, including location, accessibility features, and contact information of polling officials.
Complaint Filing	PwDs can use the app to file complaints regarding any issues encountered during the electoral process.
Wheelchair and Transportation Services	PwDs can request wheelchair assistance and transportation services for election day through the app.
Easy Navigation	The Saksham app is designed with user-friendly navigation for easy access to various features and services.
Multiple Languages	Supports multiple Indian languages to accommodate diverse linguistic preferences across the country.
Voter Education	Provides voter education materials explaining the importance of voting, the voting process, and voter rights and responsibilities.
Candidate Information	Users can access details about candidates contesting in their constituency to make informed voting decisions.
Tracking and Notifications	Allows users to track the status of their requests and receive important updates and deadlines related to the electoral process
