The Music Frog

The Music Frog

News: The Music Frog, scientifically known as Nidirana noadihing, is a new species of frog that was discovered in Arunachal Pradesh.

• This discovery is significant as it marks the first confirmation of the Nidirana genus’s presence in India.

• The Music Frog is phenotypically distinct from its congeners by a combination of morphological characters. The frogs have a ‘robust’ body, with males measuring between approximately 1.8 inches and 2.3 inches long and females measuring between about 2.4 inches and 2.6 inches long.
• They have a ‘rounded’ snout and ‘smooth’ skin with bony protrusions on their backs. The amphibians have a ‘pale cream’ line bordered with dark brown running down the center of their bodies.
• The speciality of this new species of frog is that both the male and female are vocal. This newly discovered frog has a unique call pattern consisting of two-three notes.
• The new species, Nidirana noadihing, was named after the NoaDihing River, which is near where the specimens were discovered and collected.
