News: Indian scientists at the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), Hyderabad, have developed highly stable, low-cost Carbon-based perovskite solar cells (CPSCs).

What are Perovskite Solar Cells?
• Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are a type of solar cell that utilizes perovskite materials as the light-harvesting active layer to convert sunlight into electricity. The most commonly used perovskite material in solar cells is methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3).
• They are less expensive and easier to fabricate than silicon solar cells, and can achieve high power conversion efficiency (PCE). The perovskite materials can also be tuned to match the sun’s spectrum.

What advantages do they have over conventional silicon solar cells?
• Low cost - Perovskite materials are abundant and cheap to synthesize, and can be processed at low temperatures using solution-based methods or printing techniques.
• High efficiency - Perovskite materials have high absorption coefficients, which enable ultrathin films of around 500 nm to absorb the complete visible solar spectrum.
• Flexibility - Perovskite materials can be deposited on various substrates, such as glass, metal, plastic, or paper, which enable the fabrication of flexible, lightweight, and portable solar cells. They can also be integrated with other devices, such as sensors, LEDs, or lasers.
