Otishi National Park
News: The NP was in news after a recently discovered snake species “Tachymenoides harrisonfordi” was found which was named after actor Harrison Ford.
About Otishi NP:
• Otishi National Park is a beautiful and diverse natural area in Peru, located in the regions of Junín and Cusco.
• It was established in 2003 to protect part of the Vilcabamba mountain range, which is home to many endemic and endangered species of plants and animals.
• The Cock of the Rocks, the national bird of Peru, which has a bright red-orange plumage and a distinctive crest. It is one of the most emblematic and charismatic birds of the park, and can be seen in leks (mating arenas) where males display their feathers and dance to attract females.
