News: Lake Titicaca, situated in the Andes on the border between Bolivia and Peru, is facing historic low water levels, only 10 inches away from its alltime low recorded in 1996.
About Lake Titicaca:
• Lake Titicaca is a fascinating geographical and cultural landmark located in the Andes mountains between Peru and Bolivia. Lake Titicaca is one of the largest freshwater lakes in South America.
• The Uros people, an indigenous group, live on artificial islands made from totora reeds that grow abundantly in the lake. These islands are constructed by layering reeds on top of one another and are anchored to the lakebed. The Uros people have maintained this unique way of life for centuries.
• The islands of Amantani and Taquile in Lake Titicaca have historical and spiritual significance. These islands were home to ancient Inca and pre-Inca civilizations and are still inhabited by indigenous communities.
