Havana Syndrome

Havana Syndrome

News: The Central government has told the Karnataka High Court that it will look into the matter of the ‘Havana Syndrome’ in India, in response to a Bengaluru resident’s recent petition.

What is Havana syndrome?
• Havana syndrome is a term for a cluster of neurological symptoms that affect U.S. government officials and military personnel mostly abroad. The symptoms include pain and ringing in the ears, dizziness, headaches, memory loss, sleep disorders, and mental fog.
• The syndrome was first reported in 2016 by U.S. and Canadian embassy staff in Havana, Cuba, and has since affected over 200 cases in various locations around the world.
• The cause of the syndrome is still unknown, but some scientists suspect that it may be related to microwave or radiofrequency exposure from some kind of device or weapon.
