News: Recently, Dengue cases have surged significantly in some states like Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu.
About:
• Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that occurs in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. It is caused by the Dengue virus, which is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes, specifically the female Aedes aegypti.
• This mosquito also transmits chikungunya and Zika infection.
• Symptoms – Fever, Severe headache, Nausea and Vomiting, Pain behind the eyes.
• As of 2023, there are two commercially available vaccines for Dengue: Dengvaxia and Qdenga.
