News: The Dandeli forest in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district, known for its diverse wildlife and ecosystem, faces substantial environmental shifts due to changing climate patterns and human interventions.

About Dandeli forest:
• Dandeli is a natural habitat for wildlife, located in the North Karnataka region of India
• Flora: The forests in Dandeli are a mixture of dense deciduous trees interspersed with bamboo and teak plantations. The many fruit-bearing trees provide food for a variety of bird species.
• Fauna: The forest is home to a variety of wildlife, including crocodiles which are a major attraction.
• Birdlife: Dandeli is a paradise for bird watchers, with around 196 species of birds found in the area.
• Kali Tiger Reserve: Earlier known as Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve, it is located in the central portion of Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka state.

Concerns:
• There are 100 types of grasses in the forest, however, these grasses have become scarcer in recent years, possibly due to changing rainfall patterns in the area and generally rising temperatures.
• The grasses are being replaced by eupatorium weed, which is not eaten by the herbivores and is prone to fires.
• Moist deciduous forests have now been converted into dry deciduous forests. This change is believed to be due to rising temperatures and shifting rainfall patterns.
