News: Recently, India criticised the Uniting for Consensus (UfC) Model at the United Nations for opposing reforms to the Security Council.
About:
 The Uniting for Consensus (UfC) model, also known as the Coffee Club, emerged in the 1990s as a movement opposing the expansion of permanent seats in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). This model is supported by a group of countries, primarily including Italy, China, Argentina, and Pakistan, among others. 
 It primarily aims to counter bids for permanent seats in the United Nations Security Council by G4 nations –India, Brazil, Germany, and Japan.
Argument against expansion:
 The thesis of the UfC group is that increasing permanent seats would further accentuate the disparity between member countries.
 They argue that expanding permanent membership could lead to decreased efficiency and effectiveness in decision-making within the Security Council Proposed alternative
 Instead of creating new permanent seats, the UfC model proposes enhancing the role of non-permanent, elected members.
 It suggests creating additional long-term seats with immediate re-election possibilities for these non-permanent members.
Concerns and criticism
 Critics argue that the UfC approach perpetuates the existing power imbalances and lacks representation from Africa and the Global South.
 Some believe that reforming the UNSC should involve broader discussions and consider the evolving geopolitical landscape.
