News: The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APCC) Climate Center has predicted that India is likely to experience above-normal precipitation during its peak monsoon season from July to September. This change is in context to the recent ENSO alert which predicts a smooth transition from El Nino to La Nina condition.

About La Nina:
 La Niña refers to the large-scale cooling of sea surface temperatures across the central and equatorial Pacific Ocean.
 It is one part of the naturally occurring ocean-atmosphere phenomenon known as the ENSO cycle.

Characteristics:
 During La Niña, the water temperature in the Eastern Pacific becomes colder than normal.
 As a result, there is a strong high pressure over the eastern equatorial Pacific.
 Conversely, there is low pressure in the Western Pacific and off Asia. 
Impact on India:
 During La Niña, India tends to experience above-normal monsoon rainfall from July to September.
 La Niña leads to cooler sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean. This cooling affects atmospheric circulation patterns, resulting in the following effects:
o Warmer Winters: India may experience warmer winter temperatures during La Niña events.
o Drier Conditions: Some regions in India may face drought-like conditions due to altered precipitation patterns.
o Floods in Other Regions: While India receives better monsoon rains, other areas (such as South America and Australia) may experience heavy floods.
