Context: On Tuesday, the ban on the LTTE was extended by five more years by the Union Home Ministry. This decision was made due to the LTTE\'s role in fostering a separatist tendency among the masses, enhancing its support base in the country, particularly in Tamil Nadu, and threatening the territorial integrity of India.


About LTTE:

LTTE EstablishmentFounded in 1976 by Velupillai Prabhakaran with the aim of establishing an
independent Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka. 
Insurgency
Beginnings
Launched a full-scale nationalist insurgency in the early 1980s in the north and
east of Sri Lanka, engaging in terrorist attacks against military and civilian targets

Peacekeeping Force (IPKF) to Sri Lanka from 1987 to 1990.
